Missouri S&T Rocket Design Team

Team Objective

To assist in the professional and personal development of tomorrow’s engineers by pushing the boundaries of experimental rocketry.



2018-2019 GOAL
This year, the team will be focusing very heavily on research projects to help the team reach new heights in future years. This year, the propulsion and recovery subgroup will be focused on researching a pourable propellant for a better burn and different parachute shapes for better landing. The design and manufacturing subgroup is focusing on researching and developing a two stage rocket. The team will be spending more time researching and building a smaller small two-stage for test launches. The electronics and experimentation subgroup is heavily focusing on our payload and a four-year telemetry project. The team has decided to do a flow rate payload to simulate blood flowing through veins to test the effects of high Gs and decrease in pressure. The telemetry project is named “Project Dante” and will eventually be able to warn the team of any issues that may occur during flight. Project Dante will also be able to tell the team how fast the rocket is going, and can continue to talk to us until the rocket is found.
All of these research projects will be taking place while building the largest rocket Missouri S&T has made to date. The rocket will be 15 feet tall, and will weigh over 100 pounds! The rocket is expected to go 10,000 feet. The team is very excited to produce this rocket, and hopefully take home first place at Spaceport America Cup in 2019.
